Week 1- Data Visualization of Social Network (1)
Individual Project: Information Mapping
Assignment: Build a physical 3d model representing your social network. You will use this model to tell a personally meaningful story about your relationships with friends, family and colleagues. (Some individuals may fit into multiple groups (e.g. fellow college alumni + friend + colleague + snowboarding).
Concepts for sorting include: Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy.
Thinking about your “communication intent” and be prepared to discuss the “Lenses” your used to organize your information. At a minimum, please include the following three lenses in your thinking and in your visualization:
1. The media channel through which you interact with each individual in your network (IM, SMS, email, phone, Skype, Twitter, Facebook…)
2. Your emotional closeness to the individuals represented.
3. The frequency of contact you have with them.
Format: Whatever the materials used, work must be LARGE format. If you wish, you can choose to animate your model while telling your story.
1日目の15:00頃に出題されたInformation Mappingの課題はこちら。
デットラインは翌日の朝です。
日本語にすると
「あなたのソーシャルネットワークを表す3次元のモデルを制作しなさい。
友達、家族、同僚など個人的意味のあるストーリーを
このモデルを用いて語りなさい。」
という具合でしょうか。
いらないゴミ達がここにあるので、
こっからマテリアルを拾って作ってください、と言われました。
慌てて、みんなマテリアルの 争 奪 戦。
私は、きれいな色を扱って何かできないかな、と当初思い、
色別に風船やら付箋紙やらをとりあえず確保しました。
そこから、ウダウダウダウダ…何をネタにしようと激しく妄想。
その日ちょうど自分の誕生日だったので、
これは俄然利用するしかない！(゜∇゜)と思って、
FacebookやMailで誕生日メッセージをくれた友人達を
ネタにすることにしました。
とりあえず、Facebookを見ながら
友人1人1人を付箋に書き出して、メッセージをくれた時間別に並べたり、
付箋の色をどう利用するか悩んだり、
友人と友人知っている同士線で結んだり、
どこへ着地しようかと試作しまくりました。
付箋の色の利用は、
- タマビ関係人(ピンク)、その他(黄色)、地元関係人(緑)
- かなり仲がいい(ピンク) → そこそこ仲がいい(黄色) → 知ってる程度 (緑)
と、2種類、LATCHで表すなら
「Category (客観的)」「Hierarchy (主観的)」の方向性で考えていきました。
このままでは、2次元のままなので、
マテリアルに落とし込んだ第1モデルが、こちら。
！！！な、なんか、ダサイ(゜∇゜)
透明な素材を利用して、
個々の友人間のつながりを複雑に描こうと思ったのだけど、
上手く行かないし、イケテなさが払拭されず。
しかし、時間は既に18:00。
初日から徹夜したら死んでしまうし、
夜はちゃっかり自分の誕生日パーティーの場へ行きたかったので、
最悪これ以上浮かばなかったらこのままで提出しよう、、
と、腹をくくってその日は帰りました。
